Fakarava is home to rare and protected endemic wildlife, both on land and in the water. The atoll represents an exceptionally preserved environment, officially designated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. It is estimated that this reserve is home to one of the largest concentrations of gray sharks in the world.
Garuae Pass (North)
At about 30-40 meters deep, the Garuae pass is one of the largest passes in Tahiti. Let the incoming current carry you into the lagoon. Along your journey, you will catch sight of the silhouettes of large predators in the distance. Barracudas, groupers, and rays roam these dark blue waters.
If conditions allow, diving centers can organize a 2-dive outing at the South Pass with departure from the North. An additional fee will be payable on site.
