The Island of Fakarava is part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Alongside six other coral islands or atolls, it is home to endemic and protected species. Fortunately, you can observe them at several locations.
Garuae Pass
Another renowned diving spot is the Garuae Pass, located at the north of the atoll. Spanning over 1,600 meters wide, it is the largest pass in French Polynesia—a fantastic spot for observing sharks, rays, fish, and coral.
Dives in the North Pass:
Daily excursions for two successive dives without returning to the center, with a one-hour surface interval. This break may take place on the boat or on a beach (if accessible), depending on the weather. Depending on the currents and tides, the center may organize one dive in the morning and one in the afternoon.
A third dive may be available if there is a minimum of four participants. It is recommended to confirm this availability upon arrival in Fakarava and to pay for the third dive only on-site.
Full-day excursions to the South Pass (departure 8:00 AM, return 4:00 PM), subject to several conditions:
* A minimum of five people for two dives (not available for just one dive)
* Tides that allow for at least one dive during an outgoing/incoming current (Shark Wall)
* Favorable weather conditions on the day of the excursion, as the journey from North to South or South to North requires at least 1 hour and 15 minutes in calm seas. If winds exceed a certain strength, the excursion may be canceled.
If the South Pass excursion is confirmed, an additional fee of €85 per person is required, payable in cash on-site. This fee includes the North/South/North transfer, a stop at Fakarava South’s pink sands, and lunch.
** Introductory Dive (non-certified)
** 2-tank dives (certified divers only)
Notes:
** Certified divers must present their “diver” card on-site.
